Description

The first edition of the Alexandru Fărcaș International Vocal Competition will take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from 23 to 27 September 2026.

The competition is open to undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students enrolled in higher music education institutions, as well as graduates of the 2025–2026 academic year, aged 18 to 30 years (as of 27 September 2026).

The competition consists of two rounds:

  • Round I (online): video pre-selection based on one opera or operetta aria;
  • Round II (live): 23–27 September 2026, Cluj-Napoca.

There is no application fee for the online pre-selection.
Candidates selected for the live round will pay a participation fee of RON 400 / EUR 80.

The organisers provide complimentary piano accompaniment upon request and student accommodation at an additional cost.

The competition offers prizes totalling more than EUR 15,000, including the Grand Prize “Alexandru Fărcaș” (EUR 5,000), as well as performance opportunities with the Romanian Opera Craiova, the Hungarian State Opera Cluj and the Romanian Opera Brașov.
