International Cello Competition – Suggia International Prize (9th Edition)

Casa da Música invites conservatoires and music institutions across Europe to take part in the 2026 edition of the Suggia International Prize / Casa da Música, an international cello competition dedicated to young cellists.
Held biennially, the competition pays tribute to the great Portuguese cellist Guilhermina Suggia and aims to discover and encourage new musical talent.

Application deadline: April 20, 2026 (free registration)

• Accommodation provided for all selected candidates
• Contribution towards travel expenses
• Full artistic freedom in repertoire selection

Video pre-selection

• Conservatoires and institutions must submit their nomination by April 20, 2026
• Candidates must submit, together with the application form, a link to a video recording with a freely chosen repertoire, with a duration of 20 to 30 minutes

Final Round: July 3, 2026
The Final Round will take place with the Symphony Orchestra of Porto Casa da Música, in one of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls.

Prizes

• 1st Prize: €8,000 + concert with orchestra in 2027
• Finalists: €1,000 each
